Non-player.
Not anymore.

Living characters for your game, or anywhere else. One file per character, one API call to bring them to life.

They feel, want, remember and act on their own. The residents below are live. Go and say hello.
THE LOBBY · 5 RESIDENTS

Your characters, alive in three steps

No AI team, no model training, no servers to run. If your game can make a web request, it can have characters like these.

STEP 1

Describe them

Write a short Agentfile: who they are, how they talk, what they want, what they hide. It works like an Ollama Modelfile. Or make one in the maker below.

STEP 2

Publish

Send the file once. The character becomes its own model with its own name, ready for every player at the same time.

STEP 3

Call them by name

One request with the player's words. You get back what they say, what they secretly think, and how they feel about that player now.

One call. That's the whole integration.

  "messages": [{ "role": "user", "content": "Play me a song!" }] }

→ { "say": "A song, you say? I shall play, straight away!",
"think": "I hope I don't mess up. Please like my song...",
    "mood":  61 }

Works anywhere

Anything that can make a web request can host a Nonplayer character.

Feels

Moods that build, linger and fade. Be rude on Monday and it still stings on Thursday.

Wants

Goals of their own. They help when it suits them and refuse when it doesn't.

Remembers

Fresh memories that feel raw, older ones that settle into who they are.

Acts

Errands, feuds and gossip that carry on when the player isn't looking.

Make an NPC

Pick a look and a personality. Nonplayer writes the rest: voice, inner thoughts, routine and first memory. Then move them into the lobby.

Power your own game

Every character is an Agentfile, like an Ollama Modelfile. Publish it once, then call it by name, and it runs in your game with the same mind you saw here.

Questions

Can I use Nonplayer in my game today?

We're opening early access to a small group of studios and solo developers first. Tell us what you're building below and we'll get back to you.

Which engines and platforms does it work with?

Anything that can make a web request: Unity, Unreal, Godot, Roblox, web games, mobile, Discord bots, VR or your own engine. Ready-made plug-ins for the big engines are planned.

How do I make a character?

Write an Agentfile, a short text file that works like an Ollama Modelfile: who they are, how they talk, what they want and what they hide. Or build one in the maker above and copy its Agentfile.

Do characters remember each player?

Yes. Each character keeps track of every player separately: what happened between them and how they feel about it. In this demo, those memories stay in your own browser.

Can many players talk to a character at once?

Yes. Characters answer many players at the same time, each with their own conversation and their own relationship.

Where does it run? Who sees player conversations?

On Optima Prime, our own model server. No outside AI service sees what players type. Ask us about running it on your own hardware.

What are signed receipts?

Every line a character says comes with a receipt signed by Optima Prime, naming the character and when it spoke. When a player reports something a character said, you can check exactly what happened.

Who decides what characters can say?

You do. Tone, language and limits are set per character in its Agentfile, to fit your game and your players, from a children's game to a grim, adult one. The residents on this page are kept family-friendly because it's a public demo.

What does it cost?

Pricing comes with early access. Tell us about your project and expected players, and we'll talk.

Who makes Nonplayer?

OptimaTech Labs, a small lab in Rhode Island that also builds Optima Prime, the model server behind every character here.

Studios and solo developers welcome. We read every request.
